A Cuban reveals the best advice she received when she first arrived in the United States

A Cuban in the U.S. shares a key piece of advice: leave Cuba behind and focus on growing in the new environment.

A Cuban woman living in the United States shared one of the best pieces of advice she received when she arrived in the country. The main figure in this video is the aesthetician Marlan (@marlan_estudio on TikTok), who revealed that this recommendation came from her aunt and has been key to her adapting to her new life.

"When I arrived in the United States, the first piece of advice I received was to forget about Cuba and set my phone aside. And yes, it works," she explains in the video. According to her account, her aunt suggested that she limit video calls and conversations with people in Cuba, and instead dedicate that time to learning about the American system and finding activities that contribute to her growth.

"It’s hard to leave family and friends behind, but if you come here, it's not to waste your time," says the young woman in her message. In the video, she explains that "the system is not going to change" and that trying to modify it would be futile; instead, it's better to adapt and take advantage of the opportunities around you, surrounding yourself with successful people and focusing on your goals.

"If you surround yourself with successful people, you will be the next one to succeed. If you surround yourself with troublemakers, you will be next," she added. Her message is a call to action for immigrants, encouraging them to avoid victimization and instead work hard to achieve their goals in their new lives. The Cuban woman concludes by motivating those who, like her, have emigrated in search of a better future to seize every moment and opportunity. "Do what you have to do to reach your goal," she said to conclude her reflection.
