Beatriz Johnson Urrutia, the first secretary of the Communist Party (PCC) in Santiago de Cuba, visited the coastal municipality of Guamá this Tuesday, but to the disappointment of the residents, she left without addressing the issues affecting the community.
According to the account of independent journalist Yosmany Mayeta Labrada, several neighbors expressed their hope of being able to share their concerns and difficulties, but the communist leader passed by without acknowledging the community.
Johnson limited himself to meetings with local authorities and avoided any direct contact with "average Cubans." "We wanted to tell him about what we're going through, our various problems, but there was no opportunity," commented a local source who captured the moment when Johnson was heading towards the helicopter.
The scene left the residents without cheers or slogans in favor of the "Revolution," and with the feeling that their demands will continue to go unaddressed, Mayeta stated in his post on the social media platform Facebook.
Following Johnson's departure, discontent among the residents of Guamá continues, with a clear call to be heard and for their issues to be addressed and resolved once and for all.
In the comments section, users left strong statements such as “the people need to know that this leader doesn't care about them, only her own interests,” and “I saw from my house when the helicopter passed by, and I believe it wasn't in Guamá for even half an hour... I'm speechless.”
A couple of weeks ago, it made the news that the first secretary of the PCC in Santiago arrived with a water pipe to a local community under the pretext of discussing with residents who had been without water supply for days, but she was met with more complaints than "thanks."
Mayeta echoed the received complaint and reported that the incident took place in the Ecuatorian Buildings, located in the Abel Santamaría neighborhood, popularly known as "El Sala'o."
"The communist leader arrived with a water pipe, following the community's deficits, but did so with the pretext of discussing with the people about future improvements, although the residents shared their truths with her," noted the communicator.
He also noted that a water truck will not solve the problems that this community has faced for a long time.
