The Cuban leader Miguel Díaz-Canel dismissed Jaime Ernesto Chiang Vega and Ernesto Luis Cruz Reyes from their positions as governor and vice governor of Las Tunas, respectively, after incurring "violations in the exercise of their responsibilities," according to a note published in the official media Cubadebate.

In the case of Chiang Vega, he would have submitted his resignation to Díaz-Canel, citing "errors" in his management, regarding which no details were provided, as is customary in the official press.

While Cruz Reyes was "suspended" from his position due to violations "that led to the initiation of the revocation process."

Jaime Ernesto Chiang Vega, who had been governor since 2020, was ratified in the position last year, based on a proposal from the Cuban leader. According to the National Electoral Council (CEN) of the island, he was the least voted governor by the Municipal Assemblies (in Cuba, the people do not participate directly in this voting), with 92.16%.

Chiang Vega, 57 years old, is an electro-energy engineer, master's degree in Marketing and Social Communication, and a deputy in the National Assembly of People's Power. He is characterized by his work capacity and the use of appropriate methods and leadership style, described the local media Tiempo 21.

Regarding the ousted vice governor Cruz Reyes, they said he is 40 years old, has a degree in Accounting and Finance, with diplomas in public management and administration, and was serving as Coordinator of programs and objectives for the provincial government.

Eduardo Walter Cuelí, the current Coordinator of Programs and Objectives of the provincial government, was provisionally appointed to the position of Governor in his place.

A similar event occurred in April when the governor of Cienfuegos, Alexandre Corona Quintero, resigned from his position after allegedly "acknowledging mistakes made in the exercise of his responsibilities."

But in that case, the functions of Corona Quintero were assumed by Yolexis Rodríguez Armada, the provincial vice governor, until the election of a new Governor, who confirmed her in the position some time later.
