A Cuban boy identified as Luis Alberto López Rodríguez survived severe head trauma caused by a swing in a park in Sancti Spíritus.

The incident occurred on October 23, when the 13-year-old was at the playground in Yaguajay. After being pushed forcefully on a swing, he fell and was struck in the head by the backward motion of the seat, reported the local state newspaper Escambray.

The children accompanying him called for help, and workers from a nearby local government office came to assist him.

Initially, the minor was treated at the local polyclinic, but due to the severity of the injury, he was transferred to Joaquín Paneca Hospital and then to the José Martí Pérez Provincial Teaching Pediatric Hospital.

There, after a long resuscitation process, he was stabilized and underwent neurosurgery. He had suffered severe cranioencephalic trauma, with fractures and cerebral hematomas.

Dr. Ramón Sarduy Arana, a specialist in pediatric neurosurgery, highlighted the complexity of the surgery, which was successful and did not result in any motor sequelae.

Luis Alberto spent three days in intensive care, and although his parents experienced moments of distress, the teenager showed a swift recovery.

Currently, the minor is recovering at his home in Yaguajay and should be able to return to school soon, the newspaper highlighted.
