Mother of the surviving child from the flood in San Antonio del Sur remains missing.

There is also a missing man, who is likely the boy's stepfather. The boy remains hospitalized and is under the care of his grandmother.

The mother of Abraham Daniel González Hernández, the 12-year-old boy who survived the flooding caused by Hurricane Oscar in San Antonio del Sur, Guantánamo, is still missing.

Eight days after the tragedy, the National Civil Defense Staff revealed that two residents of the area remain unaccounted for: Kaliannis Hernández Urgelléz, 35, and Orlenis Gamboa Pérez, 42.

Although the Granma newspaper does not specify, Kaliannis is the mother of little Daniel, as can be seen on her Facebook profile.

The minor is currently hospitalized at the Pedro Agustín Pérez Provincial Pediatric Hospital, where he is recovering from a surgical intervention on his left leg, which had a wound showing signs of sepsis and necrotic tissue.

A few days ago, in statements to the state press, he recounted that when the floods started, he was at home with his family. So it is likely that the other missing person is his stepfather.

"When I woke up, the water was already a foot high and starting to rise. We climbed onto the horse, up on the beams. The house sank, I managed to get out, my family did too, but I lost hold of my mom's hand. That's when I hit my head on a coconut tree. I held on, managed to climb up, and I felt cold," he detailed.

The boy is currently in the hospital under the care of his grandmother as he continues his treatment.

Authorities have raised the death toll to eight in Guantánamo following the passage of Hurricane Oscar through eastern Cuba, where it caused severe flooding in four municipalities, particularly in San Antonio del Sur.

In addition to Abraham Daniel, another child is recovering from serious injuries.

Yodelmis Furones Matos, a six-year-old resident of Baracoa, suffered a head injury after a tree fell on his house. He is now out of danger at the Antonio María Béguez César Sur Children's Hospital (La Colonia) in Santiago de Cuba.

As for the fatalities, six had already been reported: Francisco Colombia Matos, age 92; Esmeraldo Noa Fiffe, age 82; Antolino Areas Domínguez, age 84; Alexander Saben Matos, age 42; Iriannis Labañino Domínguez, age 31; and Liz Anyi Elíaz Labañino, only five years old.

María Martha Osorio Matos, 81, and Ramón Díaz Matos, 86, from San Antonio del Sur and Imías, respectively, were added to the list.
