Cuban mothers gather ground beef and hot dogs from a landfill: "I do this for my children."

A viral video shows the desperation of several Cuban mothers trying to feed their children.

Amid the growing food crisis affecting Cuba, a viral video shared by the influencer @alain_paparazzi_cubano showed several Cuban mothers collecting food from a garbage dump "to feed their children" this Friday.

In the video, women are seen retrieving picadillo and hot dogs from a pile of trash while discussing the dire circumstances they face in order to put a meal on the table.

"For my children, I do this," comments one of the women as she collects the ground meat. She states that "the product" does not seem to be made of soy, as it apparently contains animal fat.

In the video, one of them is heard explaining that they boil the ground meat three times before consuming it, hoping to eliminate any impurities from the landfill. "We boil it three times and then it's ready to eat," she is heard saying.

Food insecurity has reached unsustainable levels in Cuba, where the shortage of basic products and the high cost of food have become a constant issue.

The economic crisis, exacerbated by failed internal policies and a lack of resources, has forced thousands of Cubans to resort to extreme measures to survive.

"This is the future that the Revolution promised," commented some users, while others lamented that access to basic foods has become a luxury for many Cubans.

In the midst of this crisis, many Cuban women, as well as the elderly, have become the main figures in these scenes of desperation.

Recently, another video showed several elderly people gathering powdered milk from the street in Santiago de Cuba. Bent over, they picked up the spilled milk powder from the ground with their hands and placed it into plastic bags, according to a brief video posted in a Facebook reel by reporter Yosmany Mayeta.
