Sales of the new Cuban malt "Guajira" in MLC have begun

Access to the new beverage is limited due to its sale in MLC in a context of scarcity.

The state-owned chain of stores CARIBE announced this Saturday the launch of the new Malta "Guajira," a product from the Cuban Brewery Company S.A., designed to delight tastes with its "authentic and refreshing flavor."

Malta Guajira is available in 500 ml bottles and can now be found at the 3rd and 70 Shopping Center, located in Playa, Havana, for a price of $0.70 MLC, the entity stated in a Facebook post.

Guajira, with a sweet and balanced profile and an intense aroma of caramel and cocoa, will be offered in a fully recyclable packaging that promotes environmental sustainability and invites consumers to "connect with Cuban roots," reported Prensa Latina.

The new beverage arrives in a market lacking options for the Cuban palate, which has had to settle for the traditional Malta Bucanero as it becomes scarce in stores.

"How delicious. I imagine it has a flavor very similar to ours: Bucanero," "We eagerly await its arrival in the network of stores across the country, not just for those in Havana, like with electricity," were some of the comments that appeared in the post.

A limitation in accessing the product is its sale in MLC, as the majority of the Cuban population does not have income in this currency and faces an informal market with unfavorable exchange rates.

In a context of scarcity of food, medicine, and other essential goods, many Cubans believe that these types of commercial investments do not address the real needs of the population.
