A young Latina living in the United States sparked hundreds of comments on TikTok after confessing the things she doesn’t spend a dime on to save money. In her video, the creator, known as @itscarolindaa, explains how she has replaced beauty salons with a more DIY (do it yourself) approach, and the reactions came pouring in!
Carolina says she stopped spending on acrylic nails, eyelash extensions, and beauty salons because she believes she can do it all at home for a fraction of the cost. “With $40, you can buy a pack of nails on Amazon that lasts 20 to 25 days, plus you save on tips, transportation, and poorly done work,” she explains, arguing that the market is full of affordable and effective options.
Regarding eyelash extensions, she was equally straightforward: "You can apply them yourself as a professional for a minimal cost. Why spend on something I can do on my own when I have goals, bills to pay, and bigger objectives?" According to Carolina, the key is to prioritize saving when you live in a country where "things are tough."
But not everyone agreed. A debate erupted in the comments. Some supported her wholeheartedly, saying: "Since the pandemic, I've learned to do everything at home, and my hair is healthier"; "I don't spend on nails or salons, and I'm saving a fortune." Others believe that the experience of going to a salon is priceless: "It's my only indulgence as a woman after a week of work," or "The luxury of being pampered is worth every penny."
There were those who asked for more details: "What nails do you use? Please share the link"; "I want to know what glue you recommend for lashes." Carolina also addressed criticisms from those who accused her of "attacking the beauty industry," stating that her stance is not an attack but a personal choice. "Everyone has their own way; I prefer to save because I have bigger goals."
The video has already garnered over 6,000 likes and 500 comments, demonstrating that topics such as personal savings and beauty economy generate significant interest on social media. What do you think? Is it better to save or to treat yourself occasionally?
