The traffic lights in Havana that are out due to power outages continue to cause significant disruptions in traffic flow and pose a potential danger for accidents.
A video sent to our newsroom in the last few hours testifies to the chaos of traffic due to the lack of light at the traffic light at Monte and Belascoaín, in the Centro Habana municipality; right near the Cuatro Caminos Market, one of the many thoroughfares in the capital that turns into a frenzy of vehicles each day.
The video shows how the law of "every man for himself" operates.
The images evoke places like India, Vietnam, or Egypt, countries where chaos is the everyday norm in traffic.
A few weeks ago, another video sent to CiberCuba showed the traffic lights on Vía Blanca and Calzada de 10 de Octubre (Agua Dulce); Cristina and Matadero (Cuatro Caminos); Concha and Cristina; and 23 and J, all extremely busy areas.
In June, an accident in the Miramar neighborhood of the capital raised an alert for drivers traveling through various streets in Havana, as several traffic lights were out.
In mid-October, a truck carrying gas collided with a Pontiac in an incident primarily caused by a traffic light malfunction.
The complaints are countless, and Cubans are urgently seeking solutions to restore traffic control and prevent the situation, which is not new in itself, from worsening further and leading to greater problems.
