The Electric Company of Havana reported this Tuesday a series of scheduled blackouts labeled as "emergency" for today in several areas of the capital, due to the severe deficit that persists in national electricity generation.

According to the informational note published by the entity on Facebook, the outages will affect customers associated with Blocks #1 and #2, during the hours from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

In the afternoon, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Block #4 will experience power outages.

A third group, in this case Block #3, will experience power outages from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., undoubtedly the worst of the three time slots, as it falls during the time when families gather at home after returning from work or school.

The electricity generation situation in Cuba remains critical, as evidenced by the increasing schedule of blackouts for Havana.

Residents of the capital, who until recently had been privileged compared to those in the other provinces of the country, are now experiencing power outages themselves. Although the hours of service interruption remain shorter than in other areas, these regions have been enduring prolonged electrical outages for many months.

As usual, in the comments section of the post, dozens of internet users criticized the announcement from the Havana Electric Company, agreeing that this type of notice— which in recent weeks has tended to extend the hours and areas affected— is here to stay.

We summarize some of the comments that encapsulate the prevailing displeasure:

"It’s every day; it’s here to stay. Nobody has come out to say when we will get out of this. It’s very obvious that never"; "This has come to stay, just like hunger and misery"; "From dawn, one is stubborn and tired of all the lies"; "This is enough to drive you crazy. You don’t even know what to cook anymore because charcoal is so expensive"; "The emergency is now permanent and daily. We wake up and go to bed in emergency mode"; "Every day the same thing. Where has the fuel they sent gone? Into the cars of the high-ranking officials and yours too"; "It’s too much already. What desperation! This people can’t take it anymore"; "We live in the land of lies, where the only reality is what’s on the news"; "Electric Company of Havana, please check the hours from 3 to 7 and 6 to 10. During those times, people return from work to cook"; "Everything here is a test to see if you can handle it. They get you for good"; "Today there’s more deficit than yesterday with new synchronizations. Not even in winter, you liars"; "Will we ever get out of the blackouts, or is this going to be eternal?"; "How do I explain to my daughter that the country is in ruins and that’s why we never have electricity?"; "I’m so tired of all of you already!"

At the same time, in its daily report, the Electric Union (UNE) announced on Tuesday that eight thermal power units are currently out of service, four due to breakdowns and four for maintenance.

Considering these circumstances and the ongoing fuel shortages, the estimated outages for today will be 950 MW during the daytime and up to 1,450 MW during peak demand hours.

For Cubans, it's never overcast.
