Donald Trump has selected Peter Lamelas, a doctor, entrepreneur, and Cuban exile, as the next United States ambassador to Argentina.

The announcement was made by Trump himself on Truth Social, where he highlighted Lamelas' story as a successful man in American territory.

“Peter is a doctor, philanthropist, and an incredible businessman, best known for founding the largest urgent care company in Florida. When he was a child, Peter and his family fled communist Cuba and legally emigrated to the U.S., starting from scratch and achieving the American dream,” he wrote.

The former president also recalled the achievements of the appointee in previous positions, such as his involvement in the Justice Department's Medal of Valor Review Board and his role on the Florida Medical Board. “Congratulations, Peter!” Trump added.

For his part, Lamelas publicly thanked the president for his trust in a message on X.

"Mr. President, thank you for this incredible honor. The world sees it clearly: the United States is back because Donald J. Trump is back. Under his leadership, the relationship between the United States and Argentina will reach unprecedented greatness. MAGA," he stated.

It is worth remembering that Lamelas met Argentine President Javier Milei at Mar-a-Lago just a few weeks ago, and now he will need to undergo the confirmation hearing in Capitol Hill before taking office in April.

In this regard, Infobae recalled that Milei announced his intention to sign a free trade agreement with the United States, and Lamelas will participate in the bilateral negotiations.

This appointment strengthens the strategic alliances between Washington and Buenos Aires, within a context of ideological harmony between Trump and Milei.

Previously, Trump appointed Senator Marco Rubio as Secretary of State, making him the highest-ranking Latino in the history of the U.S. government.

In a statement, Trump noted that it is "a great honor for me to announce that Senator Marco Rubio from Florida has been nominated to be the Secretary of State of the United States."
