Campaign to save the Cuban girl Lía raises $16,000, but the goal is still far off

Thanks to the generous contributions of many individuals, $15,980 have been raised through the GoFundMe platform to help Lia's family cover their living expenses and medical treatment in the U.S. However, this amount is just a little over half of the goal: $30,000.

The campaign to save the life of Lía Isabel García Torres, a five-year-old girl fighting a tough battle against leukemia, raised nearly $16,000. However, despite this progress, the amount needed to cover her medical treatment and stay in the United States has not yet been reached.

Thanks to the generous contributions of many individuals, a total of $15,980 has been raised since a GoFundMe account was opened for this purpose, but the goal of $30,000 is still far off.

Lía, who lives in the province of Mayabeque, was diagnosed last year with acute lymphoid leukemia and has been receiving treatment at the Juan Manuel Márquez Pediatric Hospital in Havana, where she has experienced adverse reactions to the medications and has been in intensive care.

Despite Lía's successful return to the oncohematology unit, her treatment has been interrupted due to complications, explained activist Yamilka Laffita (Lara Crofs) in a social media post last October, where she launched a petition for financial support to make Lía's treatment possible in Florida, USA.

Nicklaus Children's Hospital in Miami accepted Lía's case, but her family will have to cover the costs of her stay and treatment, as they have no relatives in the country, only friends who will support them. Therefore, they are raising funds to cover the expenses.

Laffita and fellow activist Diasniurka Salcedo have been promoting the campaign through their social media, aiming to assist the family so that the little girl can receive treatment at the renowned medical institution in Florida.

"Let us keep praying and sharing; let us not forget that this princess wants to live, and together we can make it happen because WANTING IS ABLE!!! You can help by donating and sharing, thank you!! LET'S NOT ALLOW THIS SMILE TO FADE AWAY, PLEASE!!" Salcedo wrote on Facebook this Monday, urging others to continue supporting the girl.

Lía's mother, Yailé Torres, recently expressed her gratitude to those who have helped, shared the campaign, and donated to make the family's trip and stay in the U.S. possible.

Additionally, they requested that the GoFundMe post continue to be shared so that more people can donate.

Lía also wanted to express her gratitude and sent an heartfelt message: "Thank you very much, I love you all with my heart!"
