In the midst of the National Boxing Series, held at the Rafael Fortún multipurpose hall in Camagüey, Cuban boxers took part in matches despite a power outage that plunged the venue into darkness.

The unusual event was reported by the website Swing Completo on its Facebook page, highlighting how the athletes continued to compete under incredibly adverse conditions.

This incident highlights the severity of the energy crisis affecting the island and its families, where power outages are becoming increasingly frequent, complicating even the organization of national sporting events.

Just for this Wednesday, the Electric Union (UNE) announced a generation deficit of 1,570 MW.

The figure, already high, could end up being even lower, as happened on Tuesday, when the forecast indicated an impact of just over 1100 MW, but it actually reached 1496 MW at 6:10 PM.

The reason, according to the UNE, was the non-entry of unit 3 of the Rente thermoelectric plant and six engines in the Melones area, and that the demand exceeded the planned levels.

Additionally, two units from the Felton thermoelectric plant and one from Renté are out of service. Six other blocks from the CTEs in Mariel, Santa Cruz, Cienfuegos, Nuevitas, and Renté are undergoing maintenance.

In addition, 60 distributed generation plants are out of service due to a lack of fuel, along with nine engines in the Melones power plant and five more engines in the Regla power plant, resulting in a total of 558 MW affected by this issue.
