Donald Trump's daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, announced that she is withdrawing from consideration to become a senator from Florida, following Marco Rubio's nomination for the position of Secretary of State.

"After a tremendous amount of reflection, contemplation, and encouragement from so many people, I have decided to withdraw my name from consideration for the United States Senate," he stated on his X account.

"I could not have felt more honored to have been co-chair of the Republican National Committee (RNC) during the most important election of our lives, and I am truly honored by the incredible support that the people of our country and here in the great state of Florida have shown me," he added.

Lara Trump, wife of Eric Trump, thus forgoes the opportunity to replace Rubio if he is ultimately confirmed.

"I have a big announcement that I'm excited to share in January, so stay tuned," he said.

"I continue to feel an incredible passion for public service and hope to serve our country again at some point in the future. In the meantime, I wish Governor DeSantis the best of luck with this appointment," he concluded.

Ron DeSantis is the one who must choose who will replace the Cuban-American congressman in his current position. The selected individual will hold the office for two years, until the next scheduled elections in 2026.

This week, Donald Trump expressed his interest in having his daughter-in-law selected. Close sources confirmed to The Washington Post that the governor was considering the opinion of the elected president. However, there was also speculation that he might lean towards appointing someone with experience in Florida's public administration.

In early November, Lara resigned from the vice presidency of the Republican National Committee.

In his statements on social media, he noted that he has accomplished the three main objectives set when he took office in March: breaking fundraising records, building an "army" of election observers, and promoting early voting among millions of people.

"The work I came to do has been completed, and I intend to formally withdraw from the RNC at our next meeting," he stated.

In his final message, he expressed gratitude towards Donald Trump and the chairman of the RNC, Michael Whatley, for the support received during his tenure.

"If I am chosen to take on another role, it would be a true honor for me," Lara Trump said last month in an interview with Fox News.
