Food is distributed to families in need in Cárdenas during Christmas

Amid the economic challenges faced by Cubans, a group of volunteers from Cárdenas, Matanzas, organized a solidarity event to distribute food to families in need during Christmas.

Kiryat Poey reported in the Facebook group "Cardenenses en Facebook" that the initiative, led by Idalmys and supported by several community members, involved preparing food in her own home, which was transformed into an operations center for this charitable cause.

Among the participants were Zuleyka, who helped and distributed food; Guelsys, who donated a box of chicken and remained attentive to the needs; and Mia Rahid, who sacrificed her Christmas Eve to distribute food throughout the city.

"I feel bad sending her alone to an address, but with a huge smile, she said to me: 'Don't worry, I'll go,'" Poey recalled, referring to Rahid.

The dedication of everyone involved, including other volunteers who contributed donations of sweets, spices, and nougats, made it possible for many families in Cárdenas to have a special evening.

The initiative was celebrated and discussed in the Facebook community as an example of solidarity and unity in difficult times, demonstrating that empathy and collective effort can make a difference in the face of adversity.

In a previous post, Poey expressed gratitude to the confectionery located at 870 Cristina Street, between Estero and Arroyo, which joined the charitable cause of distributing food in Cárdenas.

"I want to publicly thank the bakery that reached out to me and personally delivered cakes and sweets for us to share as dessert at our charity dinner today. I am at a loss for words in expressing my gratitude. I will always promote your business and support you as you have supported us today. May you thrive because you are good people and you deserve it."

In recent days, activists, businesses, and religious institutions have launched various solidarity initiatives to support the most vulnerable and marginalized individuals affected by the Cuban regime, including children and the elderly.

Bar K5, located in Guanabo, Havana, has announced a charitable initiative for the end of the year: to offer a special meal for the most vulnerable members of the community, including children from challenging family situations, unprotected elderly individuals, and homeless people.

Hugo Puig González, the owner of the business, announced on Facebook that, inspired by last year’s experience, they want to repeat this gesture: “We want to provide an afternoon of joy and a good year-end meal for as many vulnerable people as possible.”

A solidarity lunch organized by the San Pedro Mission, located in the Reparto Flores of Santiago de Cuba, benefited 200 people, including those who were unable to attend due to their health conditions.

According to a Facebook post by parish priest Rodhin Alonso Colomar, the event aimed to provide food and support to vulnerable individuals, particularly those who are bedridden or have medical conditions that prevent them from leaving their homes.
