More than 40 Cubans are stranded in Guyana after a flight to Havana, operated by the airline Fly All Ways, suffered a serious technical incident early Wednesday morning.
According to a report to CiberCuba by one of the affected individuals, who preferred to remain anonymous, the plane took off at 1:45 a.m., and just 20 minutes later, the engines began to catch fire and one of the motors failed, forcing the crew to make an emergency landing.
"I am writing to ask you to raise awareness about a situation that today is affecting more than 40 Cubans. Fortunately, there were no injuries among the passengers, but the airline has not yet provided a return date for those affected," the source explained.
Although no injuries were reported, there is a high level of uncertainty among the passengers due to Fly All Ways' lack of an immediate solution to guarantee their return to Cuba.
The incident has raised concerns among the Cubans who were on the flight, many of whom relied on this trip to return to the country after visiting Guyana, a common destination for those engaged in immigration or commercial procedures.
So far, no official statements have been issued by the airline regarding the causes of the fire or any contingency plan for the affected passengers.
The situation has dozens of people waiting without clear information on when they will be able to continue their journey.
However, it is not the first time that Cubans have faced issues with this airline.
In May, after spending about 15 hours stranded at Georgetown Airport in Guyana while waiting for a flight with the airline Fly All Ways, a group of Cubans who were supposed to return to Cuba were taken to Suriname, where they waited several hours to return to their country.
In two Facebook posts, Alfredo Ballesteros reported on the hardships that Cubans have been facing since Tuesday night, when they arrived at Cheddi Jagan International Airport with the intention of boarding the flight to Cuba.
In 2022, Fly All Ways began operating direct flights between Cuba and Guyana. At that time, the fixed fare per segment was 937.50 dollars, making the cost of a round-trip ticket 1,875.00 dollars.
