Plane heading to Florida experiences malfunction and the pilot warns passengers of a possible water landing.

The Spirit Airlines pilot said they needed to change course but there was nothing to worry about, but five minutes later announced a possible emergency landing.

A plane heading to Florida experienced a technical issue that forced it to return to its departure point, Jamaica, but before that, it was close to making an emergency landing on the water.

The incident occurred on Sunday on a Spirit Airlines flight. A passenger told CNN that panic and confusion reigned when the pilot announced to the passengers to prepare for a possible water landing.

The Airbus plane was heading to Fort Lauderdale when it was forced to change course, but initially the pilot said, "there is nothing to be alarmed about." However, about five minutes later, he announced the news that alarmed everyone: "Prepare for an emergency landing in the water."

A passenger identified on her TikTok account as MzTinamarie (mztinamarie33) shared a video showing the takeoff of the plane, in which a bell signal can be heard several times in the cabin, although its meaning is not clear.

You can also see what happens after the pilot's announcement, with travelers looking fearful wearing orange life jackets.

"It's scary and people are frightened and panicking," the woman commented.

Finally, after the safe emergency landing, the life jackets were scattered on the ground as people disembarked from the plane.

The airline confirmed in a statement that the aircraft changed its course "as a precaution after an alleged mechanical issue" and returned safely to Montego Bay.

The passengers were disembarked "under normal procedures" and another plane was arranged to take them to Fort Lauderdale. No injuries or health issues were reported.

"Security is our top priority, and the plane will be thoroughly evaluated by our maintenance team," the company's document expresses as it apologizes to its guests for the inconvenience.
