Two arrested and 50 kilos of drugs seized in undercover operation in Miami

An undercover operation in Miami resulted in the arrest of two individuals and the seizure of 50 kilograms of drugs. The Florida coast is a critical point for drug trafficking.

At least two people were reportedly arrested this Sunday in Miami during a drug operation, according to social media users.

The events took place at the dock of the iconic 15th Street Fisheries restaurant, located at the Lauderdale Marina.

A video shared on the news site Only in Dade showed the moment when police officers searched a vessel that was allegedly carrying 50 kilograms of drugs.

"Earlier today at the 15th Street Fisheries in Lauderdale Marina, two men were arrested after 50 kilograms of narcotics were confiscated from their vessel. They were traveling with an undercover officer," the post stated.

At the time of drafting this note, further details about the incident are unknown, and local media have not reported any statements from the police or confirmation from the authorities.

Drug trafficking and discoveries on the shores of Florida

The case in question adds to a growing series of incidents related to drug trafficking in South Florida, where the coastal geography makes the region a strategic point for smuggling.

Throughout 2024, several incidents have highlighted the magnitude of the problem. In June of that year, a sailor found a shipment of cocaine valued at one million dollars floating in the water near Key West. A similar discovery occurred in May when beachgoers in the Florida Keys stumbled upon another batch of cocaine, also worth one million dollars.

That same month, authorities intercepted a shipment of 7,700 kilograms of cocaine off the coast of Florida, marking one of the largest seizures recorded in the region. These events illustrate that, despite efforts to combat drug trafficking, the shores of Florida continue to be a critical point for the entry of illegal drugs into the United States.

In October 2023, another notable case occurred on a beach in Florida, where authorities seized cocaine valued at $970,000, discovered by a group of beachgoers. This pattern has been frequently observed, with constant reports of people finding drug packages thrown into the sea by traffickers trying to evade capture during police operations.
