As part of its commitment to promoting and defending classical music in Cuba, Fábrica de Arte Cubano has organized the event "Bach en La Habana" to commemorate the 330th anniversary of the birth of Johann Sebastian Bach, one of the towering figures in universal music. On November 5th and 6th, there will be a showcase of the extensive and beautiful works of this German Baroque composer through a wide variety of formats. The event will take place in two segments: the first from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., featuring music schools; and the second starting at 9:00 p.m., with professional artists who have, in various ways, incorporated Bach's works into their repertoires. The program will also include presentations of videos and various audiovisual materials about Bach, his life, his works, and the era in which he lived. This composer, organist, harpsichordist, violinist, violist, chapel master, and cantor is regarded as one of the greatest composers of all time, considered by many to be the most extraordinary musician in history. Bach's works are performed repeatedly in a vast array of venues and international music competitions and curricula. At Fábrica de Arte, pieces such as the Suite in B minor, the Sonata No. 5 in E minor for flute, the Sonata No. 6 in G major for violin and piano, the second movement of the Sonata for flute, violin, and piano, the Prelude and Fugue in E-flat major, the Prelude and Fugue in G major, and the Pastoral in F major for harp and cello will be performed, providing a broad panorama of the German genius's music. This can serve as an introduction for young people who may not yet have encountered these wonders. Bach was born on March 31, 1685, in Eisenach, Germany, and passed away on July 28, 1750, in Leipzig, also in Germany, where he was buried in St. Thomas Church. Today, Fábrica de Arte stands as the most modern and advanced venue for promoting culture and art, both national and international, among the spaces currently operating in Havana.
