At six o'clock in the evening this Sunday, the Civil Defense of Cuba decided to declare the informational phase for the provinces from Camagüey to Pinar del Río, including the special municipality of Isla de la Juventud.
According to the state authority, the provinces of Camagüey, Ciego de Ávila, Sancti Spiritus, Cienfuegos, Villa Clara, Matanzas, Mayabeque, La Habana, Artemisa, Pinar del Río, and the Special Municipality of Isla de la Juventud are entering this phase due to the organization of the low-pressure area in the southern part of the western Caribbean Sea.
This Sunday, "the probability of the formation of a tropical cyclonic system in the next 12 to 24 hours has increased," stated the Civil Defense Headquarters in their notice.
They also noted that "cloudiness and rain will persist in the eastern region, associated with the influence of the trough extending from the Atlantic Ocean, so the provinces in this region must increase hydrometeorological monitoring."
Authorities advise the public to stay vigilant regarding information from the Meteorological Institute and Civil Defense, and to diligently adhere to the measures recommended by local authorities.
A few hours ago, the National Hurricane Center of the United States issued a tropical storm warning for Jamaica, while emphasizing that Cuba and the Florida Keys should closely monitor the development of the cyclone.
On Saturday, the Cuban Civil Defense established the Informative Phase across the eastern region of Cuba due to the heavy rains occurring in the area.
The phase went into effect at 10:00 a.m. for the provinces of Guantánamo, Santiago de Cuba, Holguín, Granma, and Las Tunas.
A mass evacuation began at 2:00 p.m., and families were instructed to bring milk for the children, medicines for the elderly, and to secure valuable items they wished to keep in higher areas of their homes.
