The industrial enclave of Mariel, located 45 km west of Havana, undoubtedly constitutes an advance in the development of industry in Cuba, as well as the possibility of resounding benefits from foreign investment.
Mexico is at the head of the foreign companies present in the Port of Mariel. This country is Cuba's fourth trading partner in America, after Venezuela, Canada and Brazil. In 2014, bilateral trade between Cuba and Mexico was 459 million dollars.
The Secretary of Foreign Relations of the United Mexican States, Her Excellency Claudia Ruiz Massieu Salinas, arrived on the island this Monday. The chancellor assured that "Today, there are more Mexican businessmen and investors who show interest in doing business with Cuba and in taking advantage of the opportunities generated by this process."
For its part, MINREX, on its website, states that Ruiz Massieu "will hold official conversations with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, and will carry out other activities."
“Cuba occupies a special place in Mexico's foreign policy and in the hearts of Mexicans. Shared history, geographical proximity, common language and deep cultural affinities are some of the deep reasons that deeply unite our societies,” said the Mexican chancellor.
