Septeto Santiaguero wins Latin Grammy for Best Traditional Tropical Album

The prestigious Cuban traditional music groupSepteto Santiaguero, just won the Grammy Latino this year for Best Traditional Tropical Album, for "I don't want to cry", a tribute to the legendary duo Los Compadres.

The award-winning phonogram stands out for being the first of the Septet produced by the state record label EGREM in Cuba.

Under the direction ofFernando Dewar, The album pays tribute to an iconic duo of traditional Cuban music in the voice of Septeto and great Cuban and Latin salseros such asMorales Shark, Oscar D´ León, José Alberto El Canario, Andy Montanez, Aymee Nuviola, among others.

It also highlights the collaboration ofEliades Ochoa, famous Cuban composer, member of the emblematic orchestraBuena Vista Social Club and nominated for the Latin Grammy in the last edition.

The Compadres, a duo started last century by Lorenzo Hierrezuelo and Francisco Repilado (Compay Segundo), was characterized by its particular way of interpreting the son in the style of the Guajiros of the East. They constituted a phenomenon of popularity, making numerous presentations in countries around the globe.

Among the best-known songs of Los Compadres are "Venga guano", "I don't want to cry", "Guarapo, pepper and salt", "Yo canto en el llano" "Macusa", “Mi son oriental", “Rita La Caimana" " and "How Times Change."

In the 2011 and 2013 editions of the Latin Grammys, Septeto Santiaguero had already received nominations for the albums "Oye mi Son Santiago" and "Vamos pa’ la fiesta".

In addition, the clip "Ojos color sol", by the Puerto Ricans from Calle 13 with the Cuban Silvio Rodríguez, won the award for Best Short Version Video, Cubasí reported.

While Rubén Blades won the Best Salsa Album for "Son de Panamá"; Gilberto Santa Rosa was placed in the Traditional Pop Vocal Album category for "Need a bolero" and Juan Luis Guerra won more than one award with the volume "Everything has its time."
