The National Navy of Colombia reported this Saturday that they managed to rescue 40 migrants alive who were abandoned in the Gulf of Urabá, the southernmost area of the Caribbean Sea located in that country.
In the group there were 35 adults and 5 minors, from Bangladesh, Burkina Faso, Cuba, Ecuador and India.
According to the authorities, they were robbed in the Turbo sector, Antioquia, when they were trying to continue heading to Central America.
The migrants received food and the corresponding medical attention. They were then placed at the disposal of the Colombian immigration authorities.
During this week, they have managed to rescue 70 foreigners, and so far this year a total of 296. They also said that 20 individuals who were dedicated to illegal human trafficking in that area were arrested.
