A woman of Cuban descent gave birth to a girl on Thanksgiving Day while traveling on American Airlines flight 868, which departed from Tampa and landed in Charlotte, North Carolina, marking an unusual occurrence.
According to what she told CiberCuba, Nereida Araujo had her due date set for December 8, but she decided to travel to Pennsylvania because her husband's grandmother is ill with cancer, and they wanted to be with her during the family gathering.
"I felt like something broke," he says, recounting how the incident occurred, which took place 20 minutes before the plane landed.
"I don't know if I was scared or just confused, but when I went to the bathroom, that's when I felt the labor pains," the young woman recounts, who never imagined she would receive such a shocking surprise.
In a video provided to CiberCuba, the father is seen filled with emotion as a crew team assists Nereida in delivering their baby, who was born weighing 5.8 pounds and couldn't have a more fitting name: Sky.
Upon arriving at the airport, they were greeted by a medical team that took the mother and the newborn to a health center, where they underwent examinations and it was determined that both are doing well.
It wasn't Nereida's first time facing childbirth pains. She has two children, a 12-year-old son and a 7-year-old daughter, who have welcomed the new member of the family with open arms and the joy evident on their faces.
To support their stay in Pennsylvania, Araujo and the rest of the family have turned to the GoFundMe platform to help with the expenses of their time in the city, as they made the trip without everything the baby needs.
Through her Facebook profile, the young mother expressed her gratitude to everyone who helped her when her daughter was coming into this world.
