A Cuban resident in Camagüey has shared brief, but shocking images, of a queue at a "Water and Soap" establishment in that province.
“This is a…this is a battle,” the young man who filmed the images manages to stammer in the middle of a distressing crowd of people pushing and shouting, all tinged by a downpour.
Social distancing to avoid the spread of coronavirus? None. Impossible. The short video confirms again that the agony of the lines in Cuba is not restricted to Havana nor to the chicken as an object of desire.
“The damn queue for shampoo at the Agua y Bón store on República Street in Camagüey was more than 1,000 people strong and filming was prohibited, but I was able to record a fragment anyway. There you go. Share if you have been in the same situation. Until when?” said Mario Nieves Torres, the young man who shared the images.
In 2015, the then TRD Caribe chain joined with Italian partners of the ITALSAV company to inaugurate the first “Water and Soap” store in Havana in May of that year.
In its origins, it was a festival of personal care, cosmetics and home cleaning products and TRD Caribe and its European suppliers promised that they would be stocked.
Months later, other stores in Havana opened their doors, and in the rest of the country. However, as the years went by, the shortage was installed in Water and Soap stores, and that crisis has reached its climax this year.
