Telemundo fires journalist María Celeste, host of Al Rojo Vivo

The Telemundo network fired this Wednesday the renowned Puerto Rican journalist María Celeste Arrarás, host of Al Rojo Vivo.

"Dear friends, with deep sadness, I want to inform you that yesterday was my last day with Al Rojo Vivo and on the Telemundo screen. This morning I was informed by the company that they have decided that the program will take another direction and that due to adjustments by due to the pandemic, I will no longer be part of the show," he reported on his social networks.

The journalist thanked the television network for all the years of work and clarified that this decision did not mean the end of her professional career.

"Telemundo has been my home for almost 20 years and I am very grateful for the opportunity they gave me to have been able to cover major news events and serve our Hispanic community for so many years. I leave behind many dear colleagues who will always be able to count on everything my support," he wrote

"Neither my passion for work nor my career end here. On the contrary, my commitment to you remains as strong as ever," he concluded.

Yesterday Telemundo fired several of its workers in the city of Los Angeles due to the crisis that the company has suffered due to the coronavirus.

Everything indicates that the chain will also make layoffs in its Miami offices, and Arrarás was one of the first to be notified.

María Celeste began her career in 1986 as a news anchor and reporter on Channel 24, television in Puerto Rico.

In 1987 she signed a contract with the Univision correspondent in New York City as co-host of its local news program and in 2002 she moved to Telemundo, as host and editorial director of the program Al Rojo Vivo.
