The former personal assistant of the Argentine footballerDiego Armando Maradona, Gabriel Buono, who was with him during his most difficult years, revealed details about the star's two stays in Cuba to treat his drug addiction.

Buono assured that MaradonaHe never gave up drugs during his first hospitalization in Cuba in 2000., who got them outside of the La Pradera clinic, where he remained hospitalized, and was only truly focused on his rehabilitation at the beginning, when his ex-wife Claudia Villafañe and his daughters were with him.

"The reality is that you don't have access [to drugs] when you want to recover, because in the clinic you don't have access, but you go look for it outside. And he had those permits to go out," Buono said.

"At the beginning, when Claudia and the daughters were there, he did manage to leave them, butwhen the family left they went back to the same thing"he assured.

His second hospitalization in Cuba was at the CESAM, and there he did manage to get clean, according to Buono, because they prohibited him from leaving and for 15 days he could not see anyone, during which time he went through withdrawal.

"From there we went to Colombia, where he had a gastric bypass because he had weighed one hundred and twenty kilos. Until then he played golf, because he couldn't play soccer. But he returned to the field and, in 2005, he madeThe night of the Tenth and it was fine. But then he fell into alcohol addiction. And well, he ended up on that one. But it got complicated when, unintentionally, he began to mix alcohol with the drugs he used for insomnia," he explained.

Regarding the alleged children that Maradona would have had in Cuba, the former assistant stated that of the girlfriends that the footballer had during his time in Cuba"none got pregnant".

"First [he was] with a girl namedMavys, who spent a long time with him [years] and even came to Buenos Aires for Diego's tribute match in 2001. And then he arrivedAdonay"Buono said about the two official girlfriends that Maradona had between 2000 and 2005 in Cuba.

"In Diego's second hospitalization at CESAM, in 2004, Mavys came to greet him. They talked for a long time in the park. She was very well andAt no time did he tell us: 'I have a son'" he recalled.

Regarding Adonay's alleged twin pregnancy, he said: "I traveled to Cuba in 2005, when it had been published that [Adonay] was expecting Diego's child, andWe took a pregnancy test and it was negative.".

Maradona's former lawyer,Matías Morla said that the Argentine star had three children in Cuba, whom he still did not legally recognize, which for Buono "is total nonsense!"

"That is an invention by Morla to harm Diego and the family.", leaving him in a bad light, because he had been beaten for years because he did not recognize his children. And, in this way, he once again left the person he said was his friend in a bad light," he stressed.

The former assistant noted that El Diez never came out to deny the rumors because "he never heard them."

"[Diego] found out a long time later and said: 'I don't know anything about him having children in Cuba.' But, apparently, when Morla appeared on television, the order was to change the channel for Diego so that he wouldn't see it," he stated. .

Buono also said that while it's true that Maradona had crazy parties during his time in Cuba, "it wasn't a party like some people think. It wasn't every day, it was from time to time."

Regarding the controversial photos of Maradona in Cuba with young girls, who were presumed to be minors, the footballer's former assistant pointed out: "I can't tell you that they were minors, but not to defend him. A person who is addicted , be it drugs or alcohol, he does not realize some things. When he brings someone or someone is brought to him, he does not ask for the document. And in the year 2000, even less so. Today this is very marked and one knows that it is not. It's cool. But not at that time."

Maradona died on November 25, the same day as Fidel Castro (2016), with whom he always had a close personal relationship.

The El Diez autopsy revealed that the cause of death was "acute pulmonary edema secondary to exacerbated chronic heart failure." The toxicology reportno alcohol or illegal drugs were found in his body, although there was the presence of medications that he consumed for his physical and mental health.
