Cuban cyclist Arlenis Sierra signs with the Movistar team from Spain

The Cuban cyclistArlenis Sierra She signed for two years (2022-2023) with the Spanish club Movistar, one of the nine with the highest category of the elite UCI Women's World Team.

The 28-year-old star athlete told the Cuban specialized magazineJIT who has been receiving proposals from different teams for several years, but decided on Movistar because it offers him many possibilities to continue developing.

"It's a pretty big step for me. I was already used to A. R. Monex -previously Astana Women's-, for which I am very grateful, and especially to coach Aldo Piccolo, who brought me from Cuba to see the races in Europe and gave me the option of being able to experience the level on this continent," he expressed.

"I also want to thank the team managers in general, who have not behaved badly with me, but in life sometimes you have to take steps to progress or see how it works in both your personal and sporting life," he stressed.

The young woman from Manzanillo, province of Granma, specified that by being in Movistar she will be able to compete in races, although she acknowledged that she is going to work, since she coincides with the Tokyo 2020 Olympic runner-up, the Dutch Annemiek van Vleutun, and the Danish Enma Norsgaard, a very good pure sprinter.

"I will have to work for them in several competitions. I have no problems. Since I arrived in Europe I learned to run for teams, to do it for others. They are also going to do it for me when the time comes," he stressed.

Arlenis said he wants to try the new experience, take advantage of the two-year contract and see what happens.

"I hope the results are much better and I can advance a little more in my sporting level," he concluded.

The Movistar squad is based in the city of Pamplona, capital of the Spanish province of Navarra. In May of this yearThe Cuban won the Navarra Classic title, after defeating important international road cycling athletes with a powerful final sprint.

In addition to the athletes mentioned above, the American Leah Thomas, the French Aude Biannic and the Spanish Sheyla Gutiérrez, among others, are part of the team.
