The CubanMavys Alvarez, ex-partner of the soccer starDiego Armando Maradona, was summoned by the Argentine Justice to testify in a trial against those close to the soccer player accused of human trafficking.
Álvarez met Maradona in Varadero, in 2000. She was only 16 years old. They were introduced by someone close to the soccer player who drove the young woman from Matanzas to the hotel where they met. The player began a relationship with her and took her with him to Buenos Aires for a tribute match in 2001.
In SeptemberÁlvarez offered statements to the press about her relationship with the footballer and how he introduced her to the world of drugs. A few weeks later the non-governmental organization “Foundation for Peace and Climate Change in Argentina” imposed acomplaint before the Office of the Attorney General for Trafficking and Exploitation of Persons (PROTEX).
The objective of this lawsuit is to investigate whether Maradona's entourage committed the crime of Human Trafficking by taking the young woman to Buenos Aires in 2001.
“It is important for me to highlight that during my stay in Argentina, in 2001, where I stayed for two and a half months, I was not allowed to leave the hotels where I stayed alone, nor from an apartment located in the Federal Capital where I remained, there were always people in charge of ensuring that I remained there," Álvarez said in the presentation made by his lawyers before the Justice.
"In Argentina, and stillbeing a minor, I was pressured to have a breast augmentation operation, which was performed in the country without authorization from any person responsible for me. Under the same circumstances, I was given drugs in the country, which led to an addiction for many years. The consequences of what I experienced last until today," said the Cuban.
The complaint accuses several people close to the footballer at that stage, including Maradona's former representative,Guillermo Coppola and collaborators who were in Cuba, such asCarlos Ferro Viera, Omar Suarez, Gabriel Buono, andMariano Israelite.
Álvarez must appear before theFederal Court No. 6, on November 18. She is represented by the lawyerGaston Marano. Your testimony is essential to advance the case in which the prosecutor intervenesCarlos Rivolo. Defendants will also be notified.
Chronicle indicated that the Cuban asked to be considered the plaintiff andprovided a large amount of evidence about his trip to Argentina in 2001.
By the end of SeptemberÁlvarez shocked the world with statements about his relationship with Maradona, something he had kept away from the cameras for 20 years.
He offered a detailed interview toMario Penton on AmericaTV. He brought to light Diego's ties with Fidel Castro, drug use in Cuba and the effect of this on his life.
The Cuban is now 36 years old. He has photos and documents from the time he lived with Maradona in the La Pradera house, the Health Center in Havana where the soccer player was admitted to detoxify from drugs.
