Former U.S. President Donald Trump expressed his support for Cuban-American Carlos Giménez on Wednesday, in his bid for re-election as a Congressman representing Florida's 26th district.
Giménez shared the message on Twitter to attract more donors ahead of the upcoming elections for the House of Representatives, which will take place next November.
"Giménez is a bold defender of freedom. From firefighter to mayor, and now to congressman for FL-26, he is a proven leader who will fight for South Florida and always puts America first," said Trump in support of the congressman.
He also highlighted that the Cuban American has a record of fighting against communists and other socialists.
"A lifelong Republican. He has my complete and total support!" Trump concluded.
In this regard, Giménez emphasized that he shares with Trump the passion for combating socialism and communism, and, fundamentally, for putting the United States first.
"I am proud to have the support of the president," he wrote on social media.
Carlos Giménez (Havana, 1954) served as the mayor of Miami-Dade from 2011 to 2020 and won the elections for Florida's 26th district to take a seat in the United States Congress.
Alongside Congresswoman María Elvira Salazar, a bill was introduced to combat the rise of communism globally. This proposal includes, among other measures, the appointment of a "special representative" at the State Department to identify countries where totalitarian regimes emerge.
During this time, they have been a member of the Transportation and Infrastructure; National Security; and Science, Space, and Technology Committees.
In the current midterm campaign, Trump also endorsed Congressman Mario Díaz-Balart, who represents Florida's 25th district in Congress.
"Mario is tough on crime, supports the Second Amendment, and is committed to low taxes and a strong economy," wrote Trump.
