Cuban-American congress members María Elvira Salazar and Carlos Giménez believe that the arrival of Donald Trump to the presidency of the United States, in what would be his second term, could put an end to communism in Cuba.
In statements to Martí Noticias, Salazar and Giménez expressed their hopes that the former Republican president is reelected and in his new term in office puts an end to the dictatorship on the island.
"I am very sorry for the bandits who are running the island of Cuba, (Miguel) Díaz-Canel and his little friends, I see them in a bad way. That regime will fall during Trump's time," Salazar said this Wednesday, from the Republican National Convention being held in Milwaukee.
He warned that "the regime is already hanging by a thread." In the country, there is no food, medicine, electricity, or hope. In Salazar's opinion, the only thing left is for Cubans to lose their fear of fighting for freedom, and the country will be able to prosper quickly like the cases of Hong Kong, Singapore, or Taiwan.
Carlos Giménez, for his part, believes that Trump's second term will have a tougher government policy against the regime and against the dictatorships of Venezuela and Nicaragua.
"We are going to have different ambassadors, we are going to focus more on what is Latin America and also on South America, which for many years, for far too many years, attention has not been given to our neighbors in this area," said the congressman.
"I have been in the United States for over 60 years. I have never gone back to Cuba. It's time. We need freedom, we know that Cuba is also the head of the snake in our region and we have to eliminate that regime not only for the Cuban people but also for the security of the United States," Giménez stated.
This weekend, Cuban-American congressmen from South Florida expressed their solidarity with former President Donald Trump when he was injured in a shooting during his campaign rally in Pennsylvania.
