He beach train that covers the route from Camagüey to Nuevitas resumed its services and will be active during the months of July and August.
The beach train began providing services last week and is scheduled to run every Saturday and Sunday of these two months. It leaves at 5:35 am and returns to Camagüey at 5:10 pm.
ACN indicated that another railway service that was activated this summer in Camagüey is the urban train. The option of using this means of transportation benefits those who travel to the communities of Santayana and Altagracia, in peripheral areas of the city.
Dania Espinosa Rivero, head of the Technical Group and Railway Stations of the province, explained that the itinerary includes six round trips in the case of Santayana, and four to Altagracia. He pointed out that they are currently carrying out a study of the most feasible times and places for the population.
Another railway route that restarted its services is the one that links to capital municipality with that of Morón, in Ciego de Ávila. This train is popularly known as "The Moronero" and begins its trip in the city of Avila at 3:05 am. Return from Camagüey at 3:10 pm.
A motor car continues to offer services in the province every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, between Las Tunas and Camagüey. This season they incorporated the Ciego de Ávila destination. The vehicle has a trailer. In total there is capacity for 96 seated passengers and 30 standing.
A motor car with trailer is also active, for the Esmeralda-Camagüey route. It has an almost daily frequency, it only rests on Thursdays. It circulates through the central line and the branch of the Carlos Manuel de Céspedes municipality.
Camagüey Railways maintains train service in New and Santa Cruz del Sur. These have a frequency of five and four trips a week, respectively, and in Santa Cruz departures on Sunday were included.
The use of rail services favors transportation in rural areas, which tend to be the hardest hit by the transportation crisis in Cuba. This sector has been abandoned for decades, despite the great railway tradition that Cuba historically had.
This summer the Havana government also reactivated the rail service to the Eastern Beaches of the Cuban capital.
Western Railways, a state company subordinate to the Provincial Transportation Directorate, explained that they restarted trips on June 21. The train has three cars with a capacity of 70 seats each. The ticket costs 10 pesos per person.
