The Grand Master of the Lodge of Cuba, Francisco Javier Alfonso Vidal, stayed in Mexico after traveling to the country to attend an event.
El Heraldo Masónico reported this Tuesday in an official statement about the "absence of the Elected Grand Master IH. Francisco Javier Alfonso."
On December 15, the newly elected Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Cuba, I.H. Francisco Javier Alfonso Vidal, issued Decree 634, delegating responsibilities to the Grand Master of Ceremonies, V.H. Armando Guerra Lozano, due to his absence from the national territory in response to an invitation from the Grand Lodge of Veracruz, Mexico.
He added that Alfonso attended the event in Veracruz accompanied by his wife. During the activities, he stopped communicating until it became known that he had "abandoned the mission he represented when he did not return to Cuba on the planned date of December 21."
The media outlet of the Cuban Masons indicates that "the attempts to communicate with the Brother have been unsuccessful, which suggests a tacit resignation from his position."
Alfonso's attitude is regarded as "a serious total abandonment of his position and assigned duties." Cuban Masons claim they do not know his whereabouts.
Deputy Grand Master V.H. Fernando González García, who was also outside of Cuba, announced that he will return to the island on January 5th.
"This situation, despite being an unexpected and regrettable act, will not impact the work of the Grand Lodge of Cuba," they stated. They assure that they have the capability and determination to continue their efforts.
Francisco Javier Alfonso Vidal was elected Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Cuba on March 28, 2022. Before assuming that position, he served as Grand Treasurer.
