A group of 16 Syrian students received scholarships to study medicine in Cuba as part of a cooperation program between the island and the Bashar al-Assad regime.
The students were selected for their outstanding academic results and today concluded their procedures at the Cuban embassy in that Arab country to travel to the island in the coming days, according to the statement.a report ofLatin Press.
According to what the person in charge of consular affairs of the Cuban diplomatic mission in Syria, Emilio Pevida, told the official agency, these students will be trained as professionals and then return to their locations to offer quality health service.
The Cuban government annually awards these 16 Medicine scholarships to Syria, one of its allies in the Middle East, with whom it has close ties.
In January 2022, the Cuban government donated more than 240,000 doses of vaccines against Covid-19, produced on the island, including Abdala, Soberana 02 and Soberana Plus.
In May 2021, for their part, Cuba and Venezuela joined powers such as Russia and China in the role ofobservers of the presidential elections in Syria, seven years after the last election of Bashar al-Assad.
Al-Assad easily won a tailor-made election held in government-controlled areas after almost a decade of bloody civil war involving opposition insurgents, armed terrorist organizations and the Syrian government army, as well as later , international powers such as the United States and Russia.
