Yenny Yanes Romero, who identifies as a transsexual Cuban woman, reported that she has been a victim of discrimination for reasons of gender identity at her workplace in Ciego de Ávila.

Yanes, a specialist in Hygiene and Epidemiology at the North Polyclinic of Ciego de Ávila, reported on social networks that the provincial government rejected for the second time his job application to be a hygienist in the tourist hub in the north of his province.

The young woman considers thatshe is rejected professionally because of her sexual identity. He commented that the jobs in the Jardines del Rey tourist center are under absolute control and there are irregularities in the acceptance of personnel to work there.

"The listings did not appear, it was as if they didn't want me to go to work there. Of all the people who will start working in the Cayo, the only one who will not go is me. The rest are heterosexual, but I am a transsexual woman. "It's the second time they've done it to me," she said indignantly.

Yanes is not willing to endure having her professional career destroyed for being a transsexual person. He decided to report his case through established channels and also through social networks, so that it reaches a greater number of people.

"How long will there be discrimination against transsexual women in Cuba?", the young woman asked herself and said that she wrote to the CENESEX legal assistance services raising her situation.

"I didn't study for 14 years when I finished high school, because they didn't want me in any school. At 32, I prevailed and enrolled in the Faculty of Medical Sciences. Everyone knows what I went through to become a professional in this country," he said.

The government's argument for denying him work in the northern keys is an alleged investigation that was carried out on him. However, they do not specify what topic was investigated, the results of those investigations, or the reasons why they did so."I will denounce this until the end"Yanes said.

In September 2022, it was reportedanother case of transphobia in which a transsexual woman was expelled from her job for wearing a woman's uniform.

The victim's name isKeilys Carranzana Álvarez, is 20 years old and is a native of Cabaiguán, Sancti Spíritus. He worked on the supervision and fumigation campaign against the Aedes aegypti mosquito and the prevention of dengue.
