A85 year old woman died in St. Lucie County, Florida after beingattacked by an alligator.
The woman, whose identity has not been revealed by authorities, resided inSpanish Lakes Fairways, a quiet 55+ community located very close to Fort Pierce in St. Lucie County.
After theMonday noon, the old woman went for a walk with her dog next to the lake in her community, and on the way they ran into the alligator that first attacked the pet.
Witnesses to the incident explained thatthe woman tried to rescue her dog and when she intervened, the 11-foot-long alligator attacked her.
"I could not do anything"said Carol, a 77-year-old neighbor who witnessed the animal attack the elderly woman.
"I heard something like a commotion. I looked out and saw the dog and I saw... my neighbor. (...) I just remember she came over and brushed her hair out of her face and I said, 'Swim toward the boat oars' and she said: 'I can't,the alligator has me'" Carol said.
The woman called the police for help, she wanted to save her neighbor, but she couldn't. The victim's dog survived and is in good condition.
Local10 indicated that a team of technicians from theFlorida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission They went to the scene, caught the alligator and took it out of the neighborhood.
