The Cuban boxerDavid Morrell Jr. (9-0, 8 KOs) retained his World Boxing Association (WBA) super middleweight title this Saturday after winning in Las Vegas byknock out (KO) the BrazilianYamaguchi Falcao.
Morrell knocked out Falcao at 2:22 of the first round. After receiving a resounding right blow, the Brazilian leaned on the ropes but could not avoid being counted for the fall.
He was finally knocked down with another right hand. Seeing the Brazilian lying on the canvas,The referee declared the end of the fight without doing the protection count.
"I want to thank everyone for the support and never stop trusting @davidmorrelljr_oficial now it's time to enjoy and then focus again on what's next.Is my time baby", he wrote on his social networks.
After the fight, the Cuban boxer said that he is confident that he has what it takes todefeat the interim 168-pound champion of the World Boxing Council, David Benavídez.
A native of the city of Santa Clara, Villa Clara, David Morrell Jr. is 25 years old and has only been in professional boxing for four years, where he is considered a great promise.
So far the Cuban has nine consecutive victories, eight of them by knock out.
