“I am excited to launch my campaign for mayor of Miami Dade County. “I am passionate about this great community and I have a strong commitment to seeing prosperity grow in our county,” the presenter began by saying in a video projected at the event.
With references to the “woke” agenda of the Democrats and the failed promises of the Republicans, the Cuban defended his candidacy as an independent to contest the office held by the mayor.Daniella Levine-Cava since 2020.
“Those who seek to limit our freedoms are not confused or are liberals with good intentions, but rather they seek to end democracy and replace it with authoritarianism like Cuba's. I am running for mayor to fight and defeat them,” he stated.
The presenter also included the usual campaign promises of growing jobs, a new tax policy to promote business and well-being in Miami, opposing tax increases.
The fight against crime and delinquency was also part of his speech, committing to strengthen the security forces. Education was also part of his agenda, rejecting the gender agenda and other “forms of indoctrination” in training programs, in line with the governor of Florida, the Republican.Ron DeSantis.
In addition, he defended policies for the construction of new homes to end the problem of high sales and rental prices. In another vein, Otaola was in favor of the legalization of marijuana to avoid the violence and crime associated with its illegal consumption, as well as to promote new business opportunities and tax collection.
Although these latest policies exceed the scope of the mayor of Miami, Otaola wanted to make it clear that he will strongly advocate for the legalization ofcannabis, and promised an atypical management, based on his commitment to always telling the truth to his voters, something that he reproached career politicians, of whom he highlighted their differences with his candidacy.

Miami-Dade County, one of the most populous in Florida, has 2.7 million inhabitants, of which only 1.4 million are registered voters.
Of the total voters, 544,736 are affiliated as Democrats and 435,909 as Republicans, while 482,395 count as non-partisan. Demographically, the Hispanic electorate is the majority, with 892,505 voters of all party or independent affiliations.
So far there are three candidates officially nominated for the election: Levine-Cava, Otaola andMiguel Quintero. The presentation of candidacy is only a first step, since candidates must complete a series of procedures and present the documentation required by the Miami-Dade Elections Department in order to be included on the electoral ballot.
For the last year, Otaola had promised that he would run for office in the 2024 elections. The position of mayor of Miami-Dade County will go to the vote in August 2024 and if it needs a second round it would be decided in November of that year, coinciding with the presidential elections.
