Theweb of the Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (MINFAR) indicates that "the determination of the medical fitness of young people is made in accordance with the provisions of the ministries of the Revolutionary Armed Forces and Public Health in the regulations for medical examinations prior to recruitment and call to Active Military Service".

The same source assures that "the recording of the declaration of illness by the young person during the registration process in the military registry makes it possible to rule out obviously unsuitable cases, which are excluded from the military registry."

He also adds thatIt is necessary that the recruits "be in optimal health conditions to fully undertake" their tasks, and that "preventive medical and stomatological care activities prior to recruitment have the objective of providing a solution to any condition detected or raised by young people before their incorporation into active military service."

"Don't block me anymore"

"Shall I remain silent? Noo and noooo, it is my pain, it is the pain of my family, it is the pain of my friends, neighbors. In short, of my people.I want justice and justice and I am prepared for whatever comes because I know that nothing good is coming. That's for sure and if something happens to me, don't worry, you will know.", he added.

Unfortunately, The death of young Cubans while performing their Military Service - which is mandatory - is not so uncommon, although in all cases the Cuban regime tries to silence such events.

Government of Cuba denied before the UN that Military Service is mandatory

In May 2022, thousands of Cubans reacted indignantly on social networks when a regime diplomat stated at the United Nations, during a session of the Committee on the Rights of the Child (CRC), that Military service in Cuba is “voluntary”. The statement manipulated the content of the National Defense Law, where its mandatory nature is explicit in the case of men.

In its Third Section (Article 77), this law establishes that “male citizens, during the year in which they turn sixteen years of age, are obliged to formalize their registration in the military registry.”

The regulations also establish that “once registered in the military registry, citizens are obliged to carry out the activities aimed at preparing them for incorporation into Military Service and to keep their situation duly updated.”

In 2019, the Cuban military courts ordered compliance with sanctions for Military Service recruits who self-harm to be discharged., a common practice in recent decades, with many unfortunate incidents as a consequence.

The mandatory nature of Military Service has been systematically criticized by Cubans, however, lThe recruitment did not stop even during the coronavirus pandemic, something that was severely questioned by citizens.
