The governor of Florida,Ron DeSantis, charged against his electoral rival Donald Trump in the first speech ofhis campaign for candidacy in the 2024 presidential elections, according to local press media.

"I know people in Florida who voted against me in '18 and for me in '22. They said in '18, 'I thought you looked too much like him and in '22 we realized you were your own guy, let's go do it'," the Republican politician said this Tuesday to the American press after his first official campaign event in Iowa, according to a report fromCNN.

He also said that he plans to "counterpunch" the attacks of his strongest opponent in the Republican primaries because he believes that his constant attacks on him will end up being counterproductive.

"I can count on one hand the number of Republicans in this country who would rather have lived in New York under (Democratic Governor Andrew) Cuomo than live in Florida in our freedom zone," DeSantis said, in response to Trump's recent comments. that Florida fared worse than New York under Cuomo, during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Prior to these statements, DeSantis in his first campaign speech, after the fiasco on Twitter in the last week when he presented his presidential aspirations, stressed that the country is "going in the wrong direction" and "infected" by "leftism."

"We cannot have all the large institutions taking ideological walks," he noted.

He also said that we must “be guided by reality” and that “merit must triumph over identity politics.”

“No American should have to compete in the Olympics.”woke just to get a job or access school," he added in his speech in which he promised to exorcise the country of these supposed ideological agendas.

He also promised unspecified accountability for the country's response to the Covid-19 pandemic, reigning in federal bureaucracies and finishing the border wall that Trump started.

"If I am president, this will finally be the moment when we bring this matter to a conclusion. We will restore the sovereignty of this nation," DeSantis said.

In November 2011,Former President Trump attacked DeSantis after being re-elected as governor of Florida in themidterm elections in United States.

In a statement published on his official platform, Trump disparaged DeSantis by referring to the politician as “an average Republican governor with excellent public relations,” and took credit for the former congressman's electoral success in becoming governor of Florida in 2018.

With the derogatory nickname “Ron DeSanctimonious,” the former president proceeded to illustrate how much it had helped him reach the position he occupies, after having beenre-elected with a wide margin over his opponent Charlie Crist.

Last March,Trump also did not miss the opportunity to disqualify his rival and again attacked the governor of Florida, whom he called "DeSanctimonious" again during a rally held in Iowa.

Using derogatory nicknames "DeSanctis" y "DeSanctimonious", Trump said the governor "fought against it every step of the way, and he's going to do it again."

Referring to DeSantis, the former US president assured that he would "protect Iowa's ethanol from anyone who wants to destroy it."

"He was dead as a dog, he was a dead politician. He would have been working maybe for a law firm or doing something else," Trump also said on that occasion.
