Olympic champion Fernando Dayán Jorge wins his first medals after leaving Cuba

The athlete won two titles at the Florida State Games.

Olympic champion in Tokyo 2020 canoeing, Cuban Fernando Dayán Jorge has just made his debut at a competitive level afterin March of last year left a delegation that traveled to Mexico to fulfill a preparation base.

The eventtook place over the weekend at Port Charlotte Beach Park, where the athlete won a pair of titles at the Florida State Games.

Namely,He won the C1-200 and was also accompanied by Orestes Gutiérrez as a partner.

The stellar athlete had obtained permission to participate in the aforementioned competition and his joy at winning twice was made public on his Instagram account, where he boasted of his new conquests.

Jorge was crowned at the summer level in the two-seater canoe at 1000 meters, in the company of veteran Serguey Torres.

Originally from Cienfuegos, the canoeist confessed some time ago to Telemundo 51 that upon his return from the Olympics in the Japanese capital he spent three months in Cuba and decided to 'desert' at the next event he went to.

Then, the island's authorities described his actions as "serious indiscipline" and they added that this attitude destroyed "years of intense work and aspects of the development strategy of that sport towards the Paris 2024 and Los Angeles 2028 Olympic cycles."

By the way, Jorgesaved a compatriot of drowning in the Rio Grande when trying to reach the United States.
