One year after arriving in the United States fleeing harassment from the Cuban regime, Dr. Alexander Raúl Pupo Casas stated that "this is the best country in the world."
In an emotional post onFacebook On the occasion of the anniversary, the doctor recounted his first steps in the country and the endearing experiences since then, including the birth of his first daughter on July 7.
"One year ago today I arrived in this wonderful country. I entered with a plastic bag and only a change of clothes in it, with a tight heart and that uncertainty that I suppose everyone who arrives like me has. I can't say that it has been a easy year, not at all. I have gone through very hard and really sad times. I have had to overcome and reinvent myself to be able to overcome every obstacle and everything I encountered during my stay here," he said.
He said that this year has given him the possibility of achieving what he perhaps would not have achieved in three lives in Cuba, and considered that "the United States is a great school, where opportunities abound but also loneliness."
"Here you learn the value of every second of your time and it also teaches you that not everyone deserves to be shared with them. The United States is the school that teaches you the true gift that is family, and that you can have everything you want. one day you dreamed but you will not be totally happy until you have someone to share it with," he expressed.
He said that his new country teaches you to value the people who are there when circumstances are not good, and "it educates you, it squeezes you, it frees you, it shows you that the only thing that can stop you is yourself."
"It has not been an easy year, but I suppose the next one will be better. This is the land of opportunities, the land of winners. I have never seen a people so polite, so kind, but so strong in their interest in growth and self overcome," he wrote.
At the end of his message, the doctor, who was harshly persecuted in Cuba for his criticism of the regime on social networks, stated that if he were not Cuban he would have loved to have been born in the United States.
"Today I can say, regardless of other people's opinions, that this is the best country in the world and I would let my blood flow through it. Thank you for the good and also the bad United States. God bless America," he concluded.
Pupo Casas left Cuba in 2022 togetherto also doctor Alexander Jesús Figueredo Izaguirre, fleeing harassment from the regime for their criticism of communism, and made a difficult journey to the United States.
Upon arrival he traveled to Florida, where he began to workLoading boxes in a staffing service, in which he earned "about 50 times what he earned in Cuba."
Pupo had not yet been in the country a month when he showed the material progress he had achieved –he bought a car–, and compared it to the little he achieved in Cuba, despite working as a doctor.
A few weeks ago he announced the birth of his daughter in the United States, and said thatarrival of Alessandra It made him feel "complete, indescribable joy" for the first time in a long time.
