"Luckily, it did not have an internal combustion engine, which is why the damage is minor. It is one of the vessels that survived the attacks of powerful Hurricane Ian. Now the port crane is taking actions to rescue it from the sea "Benítez Polo said.

The communicator accompanied the information with several photos in which the damage suffered by the EPICOL vessel could be seen, a company that provides more than 40 percent of the lobster caught in Cuba; in addition to other species such as oyster, conch, sea cucumber, among others.

In the comments section of the publication, a commenter stated thatFinally the boat could be rescued.

"That is negligence. We have known about the bad weather for days. Let the person responsible pay for it"wrote one Internet user.

"The consequences of not decreeing the civil defense phases, not all protection actions have been taken in time," said another.

It was not until 8:30 pm this Sunday that theCivil Defense of Cuba released its Information Note number 1, declaring an Information Phase for the provinces of Pinar del Río, Artemisa, Mayabeque, Havana and the Isle of Youth.

At 10 a.m. this MondayThe phase went to Cyclonic Alert in the cases of Pinar del Río, Artemis and Isle of Youth.

In several forums, residents in the westernmost province of the country have expressed the opinion that the cyclone alert should have been raised sooner, since only then will the population pay attention to the seriousness of the circumstances.

"If they do not decree phases, they do not take risk perception. This is a system with which they cannot sleep as they did with Hurricane Ian, this system can also arrive as a hurricane"If they don't declare the phases, the residents get the idea that nothing is going to happen, which is not the case," said one Internet user.

Laura Izquierdo García, general director of EPICOL, explained this Monday to the provincial stationRadio Guama that all the boats are well protected and that the catches were secured.

He explained that the personnel of the collection centers were evacuated and that the business units of the Cortés and Arroyo de Mantua base, the closest to the tropical organization, are safe.

Pinar del Río is preparing to receive its second major meteorological event in just over a year, after at the end of September 2022 that territory suffered the onslaught of devastating Hurricane Ian, which left serious damage to homes and infrastructure throughout type in that province.
