The regime cut off the Internet connection in the country on several occasions.Cinema 23 and 12, in El Vedado, Havana, during theAssembly of Cuban Filmmakers this Wednesday.
The meeting was scheduled to be broadcast online because many filmmakers would not be able to participate because they are in the provinces or do not have easy movement in the current Cuban crisis. However, theconnectivity was poor or non-existent during the time that the assembly lasted.
Several artists and activists denounced the internet shutdown as a way for the State to exercisecensorship and repression on creators, preventing them from recording or transmitting the cultural policy debates that occur at these meetings.
The audiovisual producer and directorManuel Alejandro Rodríguez Yong He was one of the voices that denounced the interruptions of service during the assembly.
"It doesn't matter if they cut off our Internet connection or reduce its intensity. OurAssembly of Cuban Filmmakers It will continue as we had planned, even if those of us in other provinces or outside the country cannot continue participating in it," he expressed.
He used the hashtag#OurCinemaWillBeFreeOrWon'tBe, quoting the words of the actorLuis Alberto García who dedicated in August the honorary Lucía de Honor award given to him by the Gibara International Film Festival to the Assembly of Cuban Filmmakers.
Also the researcher and editorMiryorly García denounced the internet cuts and alerted the government that "thefilmmakers guild is united and working. "It will be communicated sooner rather than later, even if it is by carrier pigeons."
In July there was a newcensorship case in Cuba against the directorJuan Pin Vilar. The authorities of the Ministry of Culture (MINCULT) held a meeting with Cuban filmmakers to discuss this issue and it ended with a tense confrontation over theban on recording the debate.
