The Cuban migrant Fernando Miguel of the Lopez Guard, which was in unknown location in the Mexican city of Tapachula since September 23, he has already been found safe and sound, as revealed by his relatives in statements to Cubanet.

"A day later, his relatives indicated that they were able to locate him and he was safe", indicated the aforementioned source, who did not offer other details about the circumstances in which the 21-year-old was located.

Preliminary reports on social networks reported that the young man had gone to buy cigarettes and that later no more was heard from him.

“He was in Colonia de Laureles 1. He had been alone since yesterday at approximately 12:16 in the morning. "He went to look for cigarettes and nothing else is known about him.", warned a publication in the Facebook group “Rooms for rent in Tapachula.”

The author of the previous complaint, responding to a request from the Cuban's family, wrote that they could not communicate with him by telephone nor did he respond to WhatsApp messages.

As a result of the case becoming visible in independent media, the family was finally able to find De la Guardia's whereabouts, according to what the source clarified to the aforementioned media.

Tapachula, a city in the state of Chiapas bordering Guatemala, is an obligatory stop on the journey of Cubans seeking to reach the border with the United States and currently is in full immigration chaos.

Currently, some 20,000 Cubans are stranded in that territory in the midst of a reactivation of the migration crisis on the island.

In recent days, Cubans stranded in Tapachula revealed that they would leave in caravan to Mexico City, after the country suspended flight permits to the US border.

The Cubans demand that they be given permits to continue their crossing to the USA and they affirm that in Tapachula they can be victims of kidnappings and extortion.

Official data from the Mexican authorities indicate that between January and August 2023, a total of 10,192 Cubans requested refuge in Mexico.
