With a shot worthy of Usain Bolt, the burly Villa Clara native Yandy Díaz won the American League batting title with an average of .330, becoming the first Rays player and the third born in Cuba to achieve that achievement.

A month ago, it seemed extremely difficult to take the crown from Corey Seager. However, the Texas star shortstop diminished his performance in the final stretch while Díaz, on the other hand, rose like foam to finally surpass him by three points.

The thing was as follows. In his last 30 games, Seager hit .275. In that same period, the Cuban scored .349. And if we refer to his last 15 challenges, while the North American dropped to .207, Jorge Díaz's son grew to an incredible .415.

In this way, the Tampa player - who prior to the campaign had been considered among the best first basemen in the game in the traditional MLB Network program- imitated his compatriots Tony Oliva (1964, 1965 and 1971) and Yulieski Gurriel (2021), the only players from the Greater Antilles who were able to win the batting crown in the Major Leagues.

The season of 'Arañita Díaz' It was by far the best of his seven-year career. In addition to shining in average, the 32-year-old sagüero was in the Top Ten of the American circuit in OBP (2nd-.410), OPS (3rd-.977), slugging (4th-.522), hits (5th-173) and runs scored (9-95).
