The families affected by thelandslide that occurred during the night of October 3, in which three people died, were transferred to a premises in terrible conditions in Havana.
A video sent to the Cuban journalistMario J. Penton reveals the state of abandonment, dirt, destruction and accumulation of garbage that prevails in the premises given by the Cuban authorities to the victims.
"The governor[Miguel] Díaz-Canel promised them 'all the help' after their building collapsed and they lost their homes. Populism and cheap sentimentality. After sleeping for days in a school, the affected families of Lamparilla 368 have been transferred to a Cuba Tabaco location in terrible conditions and threatened so that they will not tell what is happening to the independent press," Pentón indicated in hissocial networks.
The residents of the collapsed building, located at Lamparilla Street No. 368, knew that there was a danger of collapse and repeatedly warned the authorities. However, they did not leave their homes because they had nowhere to go and they did not offer them any solution.
13 family units and a total of 54 people resided in the old building.. After the collapse, which cost the lives of two firefighters and an elderly Cuban, everyone was housed in an adjacent school where they spent three days in precarious conditions, without beds, mattresses, personal belongings and with the children sleeping on the floor.
Although she acknowledged that they had been fed and cared for in the transitional shelter, a mother denounced the inhumane conditions in which they were found.
“They have us lying on the floor, without at least a mat for those children to sleep.", saidSusana Perez. The young mother stated that they remained there, “without a response,” and that the authorities demanded that “we find a place to take refuge, because tomorrow morning the school must continue with its day.”
In statements offered to Pentón, the mother said that they had nowhere to live, no access to their homes or the possibility of recovering their belongings. “We are housed in a school, without our belongings, we have nothing. Yes, they have given us food, yes, they have given us help, but we have nowhere to live and we need help, please.”
Apparently, the help that the authorities offered was to relocate them to a location in Cuba Tabaco, a company that since 2019 has been part of the state-owned Tabacuba, a monopoly run by the former “czar of economic reforms” of the Cuban regime.Marino Murillo Jorge.
On July 28, a family from the collapsed building reported that they lived in danger of collapsing and the authorities ignored their complaints.CyberCubawarned about dangerous state of the collapsed buildingin a note published shortly before the tragedy.
