A thief who attacked a scooter driver with a knife in Villa Clara was arrested days after committing the violent robbery, official sources reported.

It is about Rafael Ibáñez, who rented one of the so-called motonetas, motorcycles equipped with a cabin for passenger transport, from the Vidal Park to the José Martí neighborhood. While on the social workers' road, he threatened the driver with a knife, as reported by the profile Fuerza del Pueblo, associated with the Cuban police.

In the scuffle, he inflicted a wound on the man's face, and after injuring the motorcyclist, Ibáñez stole his cell phone and ran off.

This man had been involved in other violent robberies in Cienfuegos and was part of a gang that steals tourist cars, this profile claims.

In addition, during his latest robbery, he left “the car owner tied up and dumped in the ditch,” comments Fuerza del Pueblo, one of the many social media profiles dedicated to whitewashing the Cuban police, which is increasingly under scrutiny due to the wave of violence affecting the island.

Cuba is currently experiencing a wave of violence, with reports of motorcycle and cellphone thefts, machete and knife assaults, and murders becoming increasingly frequent.

Last week, it was reported that four men attacked a Cuban to steal his motorcycle in Havana, according to a report from the victim on Facebook.

The incident occurred on August 6 at around 8:30 PM, in Ermita, between Conill and Ayestarán, in the Plaza de la Revolución municipality.

At the end of August, a Cuban doctor was assaulted on a street in Havana by two individuals who attacked him with a machete to steal his cell phone.

Denny Orlando Rodríguez Hernández, a native of Holguín, displayed his injuries and stated that he could have been killed over a phone.

A Cuban mother also reported that thieves in the Havana area of Cojímar have adopted extremely dangerous methods for stealing, such as using electroshock devices that immobilize their victims.
