Alarms have gone off in recent days in theJesús Menéndez municipality, in Las Tunas, where theincrease in dengue cases forced health authorities todeclare the phase of disease transmission, according to official reports.

Local media revealed thateight communities in the popular councils of El Batey and Pueblo Viejo are the most “affected”, butThey did not specify the number of patients that have been reported in that municipality in eastern Cuba, and that led to the current epidemiological phase being decreed. There was also no information about the status of the infected people or whether there are hospitalized patients.

In a recent meeting, the authorities of the government and the party in the province and the municipality analyzed the critical situation, which "is worsening" these days in Jesús Menéndez, and seek to mobilize health personnel and the population to cut off transmission.

During October, 21 outbreaks were detected in the municipality - what to yougan to 169 so far this year -, while febrile cases skyrocketed positive for the disease.

Health directors spoke out in favor of increasing “health hearings” in homes and carrying out “self-focused family” controls and “environmental sanitation,” according to theofficial newspaper26.

The actions to stop transmission, proposed by the temporary working group on dengue, also include increasing the work of vector operators, solving problems with garbage collection and the dumping of sewage by the Communal Services companies and Aqueduct and Sewer, and raise the population's perception of the risk of contracting the disease.

The note recognizes the “lack of resources to confront such an epidemiological situation,” but appeals to “intelligence” and“creativity” to face the crisis, as is usual in the rhetoric with which the regime proposes to solve the country's pressing problems.

Although the government has not revealed thenational dengue statistics During this year, the situation in some provinces is known in a dispersed manner through local media.
