After the remodeling of its buildings,two public housing communities in Little Havanawere reopened this Tuesday in Miami, with the presence of the Cuban-American congresswomanMaria Elvira Salazar and the mayor of Miami-DadeDaniella Levine Cava.
The properties are located on Seventh Street of the Northwest and 14th Avenue, in the popular neighborhood of Little Havana. The first, called “Paseo del Río,” has 182 housing units, and the other, “Robert King High,” has 315 units, indicated a report fromTelemundo 51.
The remodeling project began in October 2020 and was completed last August. Its execution is part of thePlan Maestro River Parc, a collaboration between the county and the Perez family's development firm of The Related Group.
With this delivery the objective of “providing public and affordable housing for a variety of populations, including those with limited incomes,” the report noted.
Congresswoman Salazar stressed the importance of this project, which had an investment of almost 150 million dollars to provide decent housing for the elderly in the community.
Eileen Higgins, County Commissioner in District 5 that includes the Little Havana neighborhood, expressed her satisfaction with the transformation of these buildings, highlighting the improvement in the quality of life for senior residents. “The building was very old, but it was historic, so we have implemented an incredible renovation,” he told the television station.
“Renovations included modernizing flooring, installing air conditioning, state-of-the-art kitchens, impact-resistant windows and remodeled bathrooms. The apartments now offer amenities and quality of life to residents who previously lived in deteriorating conditions,” the information stated.Telemundo.
Mayor Levine Cava explained that many of the units are intended for people with moderate incomes, which will help subsidize housing costs.
Miami has the least affordable housing market in the United States, after the median list price of a home rose to $615,000 in September and remained the same in October, up $10,000 from August, according to the US Affordability Index.RealtyHop.
The October list kept the City of the Sun as the most unaffordable, since that amount means that homeowners will have to spend $3,304 monthly on mortgage payments and property taxes, which represents 40% of the annual income of a local family , details the report.
Precisely, in May of this year the senatorMarco Rubio and Congresswoman Salazar presenteda bill that would lower home prices for buyers in Miami.
The proposal sought to protect the U.S. housing market from excessive foreign demand and increase affordable housing opportunities.
